20231025 - Reuse Blocks in Altium

It took me some time to discover this. But it is possible to reuse components, even tho in local. The point of this is to have blocks and reuse in multiple design, as I am used to do these days. The way to go is the next one:

  1. In your original design, create a simple schematic. Lets say you are using a DC-DC Buck, you create your normal design.
  2. Select the piece of schematic and then, right click and Snippet>Create Snippet from selected objects. This will create a file
  3. Then go to the PCB, create your snipplet PCB design, and then select the area, and then Right click and Snippet>Create Snippet from selected objects.
  4. Then in order to import it to other design. You push Place > Reuse Block… Put your block.
  5. Then, as usual, when the design is good you need to annotate schematics.
  6. Then on your PCB design, add your blocks to the design. It is important that you have annotated somewhere the identifiers of both designs, the block design and the new identifiers of your current design.
  7. Then Design > Import changes… It will appear a window called “Component Links”, and then “Manual Component Links”. Then place the components on place.
  8. After putting everything on place, continue by placing the components.
  9. Everything should be fine.
