The text I send for the application:
The project I want to present is called EduSAT (provisional name), that is an Educational Satellite to teach students about Satellite industry. This project is the continuation of my Master Thesis, that was submitted the 20th of August, and needs its continuation to reach the final goal, bring the prototype to schools / universities.
The project follows a twofold approach: developing an educational tool that gets students
closer to CubeSat (small satellite) technology in which they can learn using a real system; on the other hand, providing a complete simulation platform for students and researchers to test new
technologies before launching at an affordable price.
Students interested in electronics, space and radio communications would be able to experiment with a close approach of a satellite. There will be some science cases in which the student needs to face challenges, like read the lecture of some sensors, activate some commands, design different parts.
There are 3 targets groups: High school students, Gymnasium students and university students. In the first one the objective is to get closer to the technology, with some introductory workshops, and in the last one, the university students, a more advanced workshop.
There is a big interest from DTU (Technical University of Denmark) to use the first version of the prototype on a course for Autumn/Beginning 2024.
The status of the project is that it was developed the 3/4 of the first prototype. The next steps is to finish the first fully functional prototype for beginning of October 2023, and start working with the students to create a workshop/science case.
My master thesis presented at DTU was the design from a technical point of view. However this project is oriented to students (high school and university). It is necessary to test the prototype with students.
The desired goal is to bring this device to classrooms and teach basic concepts about electronics, spacecrafts, software and radio communications. This project could contribute to the community by creating a educational tool for the institutes of Copenhagen.
For this project is needed a table were we can work, put some screens to work, a meeting room (for some meetings from time to time), and a storage (a shelve) were we can leave the parts.
This project is proposed as a side-job, were we can spend 15-20 hours a week. The working hours will be a full day during the week days, and some evenings.
