Hi!

As we talked in the last meeting, 3 weeks ago, here is the list of the projects I am intereseted in to work in the next semester. Sorry for the delay, the week of examns and the return home for christmas has kept me more entertained than usual. Last time we discussed to share the projects I am intereseted in and find a commong project that can me benefited the both parts. I am open to change choose a different project from below, but it is a way to meet the interests of each other.

Automated Ground station for weather satellites

The weather satellites that I am interested for this project are:

These weather satellites have a LEO orbit and take pictures of the earth, like this one:

The objective of the project is:

  • Design and implementation of a VHF (137.1 MHz) antenna for satellite reception
  • Create an automated software that calculates the orbits, receive the data from satellites with a SDR and decode the data.
  • Upload automatically all the results on a webpage

This project is interesting because it uses a lot of technologies at the same time. Students can benefit from this because it receives updated pictures from Denmark, and also the satellite operators benefit because we are receiving their data.

QO-100 Ground Station

The QO-100 is a satellite launched by the ARRL from Germany and it is the first Amateur satellite in a Geostacionary orbit. It has a amateur radio transponder which is famous inside the radio community. QO-100 carries two “Phase 4” amateur radio transponders operating in the 2400 MHz and 10450 MHz bands. A 250 kHz bandwidth linear transponder intended for conventional analogue operations and an 8 MHz bandwidth transponder for experimental digital modulation schemes and DVB amateur television.

The tasks for this project are:

  • Design and implement an antenna for 2.4 GHz
  • Build the ground station for reception and transmission

This project is interesting because it is not common to operate amateur satellites in 10 GHz and 2.4 GHz. This satellite is specially useful for europeans because we can operate it with low budget, this project can be useful for a lot of people interested in receive or transmit in the QO-100.

Implement a VHF/UHF groundstation with SatNogs

Satnogs is a Open Source global network of satellite ground-stations, in which stations from the whole earth receive the data from a big number of satellites. Currently it is a solid community, although there are no stations in the city of Copenhagen. Satnogs is useful for a lot of people, from people interested in the data of satellites, to satellites manufacturers that want to receive the data of their satellites.

This project consist briefly in the next tasks:

  • Design and implement antennas for UHF/VHF
  • Implement Satnogs software in the ground station
