The lecture and the reading are both discussing the benefits of using tidal power. While the reading states that tidal power is a clean power source, the lecturer refutes this by giving some reasons.

Firstly, the lecturer argue that dams used for generating tidal power have an important negative impact on the environment. The structures used for generating tidal power change the quality of water by causing important effects on local wild life. However, the reading explains that tidal power is non-polluting and it can be used as an alternative to fossil fuel energy sources.

On the one hand, the reading explain that it is possible to generate tidal power where there is high and low tides. On the other hand, the lecturer explain that this can affect to local economy because boats will not be able to navigate near this regions. Moreover, fish that naturally migrate from salt water to fesh water will not be able to pass throught the dam.

Finally, the lecturer argues that tidal power production decrease the sediments on the water causing a big impact on acuatic animals. Birds and fish have to move to another place where they can eat nutrients from the water.
